Want to make your own shampoo with a natural shampoo recipe?

These days, most of the products we use to wash our hair are synthetic and contain substances that can harm our hair and our overall health. If you want to protect your hair from all this, here is a completely natural recipe for shampoo that is easy to make at home!

Why use natural shampoo?

Shampoo manufacturers want their products to smell attractive and create a lot of foam. Often we do not know that these are actually very powerful products that are harmful to health when used for a long time.

For example, most of them contain sodium lauryl sulfate, which is a surfactant that they also use as an industrial cleaner and degreaser. When we apply it to our scalp, it removes the natural oils in our scalp and irritates and dries out the skin. Plus, it’s toxic too.

A natural and healthy alternative is to use organic shampoos. You can buy them with natural and plant-based ingredients  and essential oils, although these shampoos can be more expensive than conventional products.

To circumvent these problems, one solution is to use a traditional formula that is natural and cost-effective. You can make your own natural shampoo at home.

A homemade natural recipe for shampoo

What you need

  • Baking soda.
  • Apple cider vinegar.
  • Two plastic bottles.

How to make shampoo

  • For normal hair, mix a tablespoon of baking soda in a glass of warm water until it dissolves. Half of one of the bottles is filled with it. This first blend is your shampoo.
  • Add more baking powder to oily hair, or reduce the amount if you have dry hair.

How to make conditioner

  • Mix a quarter of a glass of apple cider vinegar with a glass of water in the other bottle. This second blend acts as a conditioner.
  • The drier your hair is, the more vinegar you need to add.

How to apply your natural shampoo and conditioner

  1. Apply the baking powder mixture in wet hair, review your scalp in sections and massage it in gently.
  2. Rinse well. Your hair feels a little rough, but vinegar neutralizes its pH.
  3. Apply the vinegar mixture to your hair and scalp, then rinse it out (do not worry: the vinegar odor disappears when your hair dries).

If your hair is very dry, apply a little jojoba oil or sesame oil after washing and treat it with a moisturizing hair mask when you feel the need for it.

Notes on natural shampoo recipe

Hair often needs some time to adapt to the use of natural products to replace the natural layer of oil that keeps our hair and scalp healthy.

When you stop using chemical products, you may experience noticeable changes, such as oily hair or more dandruff. Be patient though, because after a few weeks the positive effects start to show.

Another option is to make the transition slowly by gradually using less chemical products each time you wash hair, and gradually using more natural shampoo and conditioner until you finally do not use the harmful chemical products at all!
